Trail Food Recipes
Trail meals shouldn’t be an afterthought.

At Pack Pedal Plate, we believe food is a core part of any great adventure. Whether you’re pedaling through alpine passes, grinding out a tough hike, or winding down at camp after a long day, what you eat matters, not just for fuel, but for morale.
This section of the blog is where we share our favourite trail-tested recipes: hearty meals that are actually worth looking forward to, and won’t leave you feeling like you just ate a cup of salt and cardboard. These are the meals we pack ourselves. Some are quick and ready-to-go, others are dehydrated versions of real meals we’ve refined over dozens of trips. But all of them are built around a simple goal: flavourful, nutritious, packable food that doesn’t suck.
We also know that prepping your own meals can feel a little intimidating if you’ve never done it before. That’s why we’ve included:
- Tips on how to dehydrate meals at home, whether you’re using a proper dehydrator or just your oven.
- Info on safe drying temperatures, storage, and how to rehydrate meals efficiently on trail.
- Advice on what ingredients dehydrate well, and which ones really don’t.
If you’re brand new to DIY backpacking food, check out our Dehydrating Basics page (coming soon!) where we break down gear options, recommended drying temps, and common mistakes. And if you’re just here for the recipes, you’ll find everything from high-calorie breakfasts to one-pot dinners, snacks, and trail desserts.
We’re not here to sell you on expensive prepackaged meals. We’re here to help you make food you’ll want to eat, even if it’s been three days since your last shower.
Let’s get cooking.
